I am interested in observational cosmology and extragalactic astronomy. I am especially interested in studying clusters of galaxies and the starlight between them. I also study a form of high-redshift galaxies known as Lyman-alpha emitters, which appear to be galaxies just in the process of forming and creating large numbers of stars. I also use extragalactic planetary nebulae to find the distances, dynamics and chemical abundances of nearby galaxies.
I have been doing work on the astronomy and physics education of homeschooling students. Home-schooling students are very interested in science, but access to science outreach has often been difficult. I am also interested in teaching undergraduate the process of how to do science, which often seems mystical to them. By de-mystifying the process of science, we should be able to make science more accesible to students.
